That Story of Yours

When you are done trying,

And fooling and acting.

Pretending to be brave and strong

And all the words

That go with them.

When you accept

That sometimes

It is okay to confront the truth:

You are weak,

You stumble

And fall and cry.

When all you wish for is

To be held,

And caressed

And loved.

When the story

You tell yourself

Refuses to come out as a lie;

Demands its truth,

Fights for reality.

And you let it out-

All those erased words,

Now re-written.

Knowing that very soon

You will erase them again

And go back

To trying,

And acting and fooling

No one but yourself,

With that story of yours.
